popeye

Popeye is a Florida Mud Turtle. I found him in 2003 when, driving down the dirt road to my parents house, a rock tried to evade my tires. I later discovered it wasn't a rock, but a very tiny turtle. He was dried out, being attacked by fire ants and his eyes were swollen shut. I scooped him up - at that time he was no longer than my pinky finger - and brought him home. After tweezing the ants off of him and about a weeks worth of eye drop applications, he was as good as new.

He has been my little turtle buddy ever since. Right now he's about two inches long and should eventually grow to around 4 inches.

Waffle is a "second chance fert." Jon had grown attached to him while working at Pet Supermarket but he was adopted quickly by someone else. After a few months passed, we got Bruce and were contemplating finding him a buddy when the man who had adopted Waffle came back to Pet Supermarket looking for Jon. He was planning to move out of state, remembered that Jon liked Waffle, and wanted to give him to us. What luck!

His first family named him Slinky and allowed him to eat human food. This was quite apparent from his girth. The first time I saw him do the "flat ferret" I cracked up laughing at how much his chub spread out like a pancake. Since I like waffles more than pancakes his name was a clear choice.

Now he's on a strict "no people food" diet, but still his adorable chubby self.

Bruce is a 1 year old, white ferret. He is much smaller than Waffle and a lot more calm.

Bruce was born a little bit "special." He has a different shaped skull which has left him deaf. Sometimes having a deaf ferret is better than most would think. We can crash around the house and make all sorts of startling sounds without waking or forever traumatizing the little guy.

His favorite foods are Twizzlers and Mountain Dew. Unfortunately for him, they're off limits.
